What is an innovative privacy initiative/technology?

A program in an organization to safeguard privacy of consumer and supplier data. It can cross divisions within a cost center or business unit. It need not be a "public campaign" but also can be an internal organizational plan, assessment, process, program or any combination of there of.

Is there an entry fee?

No.

Is this a international Award?

Yes, we encourage nominations from any and all nations.

Is this an annual Award?

Yes.

What does the winner receive?

A really cool trophy and international recognition for their innovative achievements in privacy. Past winners include: eBay; Microsoft; The Office of the CIO for the Government of Alberta, Canada; The U.S. Postal Service.

How will the entries be judged?

Applications will be judged by a distinguished panel of privacy experts from the private and public sectors. Once selected, the names of judges will be available on our Judging Page. To ensure complete objectivity in the process, panelists will not be involved in reviewing or judging applications from their own organization.

The entries will be judged against criteria based on, among other things, the level of innovation, thought leadership and integration represented by the entry.

Who can apply for this Award?

Any private or public sector organization that meets the qualifications found in the nomination form. Self-nominations are encouraged.

Who can nominate companies for this Award?

Self-nominations are welcome. In addition, we are encouraging media persons, privacy experts, thought leaders and technology enthusiasts to submit their nominations.

What is the deadline for nominations?

The nomination deadline has been extended to September 14, 2007.

When will I find out who won?

The award winners will be announced and awards presented at the IAPP Academy in San Francisco the week of October 22, 2007.

What is the IAPP/Deloitte & Touche Vanguard Award?

The Vangaurd Award is a totally separate award, not to be confused with the Privacy Innovation Award. The 2007 IAPP/Deloitte & Touche Vanguard Award recognizes a single individual privacy leader – not an organization – and all entries are evaluated by the executive committee of the board of directors of the IAPP.

All submissions must be made in writing (along with letters of support) and submitted to Peter Kosmala via email (peter@privacyassociation.org) or postal mail (IAPP at 170 Cider Hill Road, York ME 03909). No faxed applications will be accepted.

The deadline for Vanguard submissions is September 28, 2007. The winner will be announced at the IAPP Academy in San Francisco on October 23, 2007 and the award will be presented at the IAPP Privacy Dinner in Washington D.C. on December 11, 2007.
